Sedation Dentistry in Las Vegas

Making Your Visit More Comfortable

Despite our practice name, we understand that dental treatment isn’t a breeze for everyone. It is perfectly normal to feel anxious or even fearful of dental appointments. However, this becomes an issue when it prevents someone from receiving the dental treatment they need or from achieving the beautiful smile they deserve.

Sedation dentistry techniques were developed to help patients tolerate treatment more easily. If you opt for sedation dentistry, you will receive medication that puts you in a very relaxed, stress-free state. You won’t feel anything as our team works and, depending on the specific method, you may have little or no recollection of your appointment. Sedation dentistry is one of the most useful tools that we offer!

Would I Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry may be a good option if you have:

  • Dental phobia (fear of the dentist or dental treatment)
  • Anxiety around the instruments, sounds and smells of the dentist’s office
  • A sensitive gag reflex
  • A past traumatic dental experience
  • Extremely sensitive teeth
  • Difficulty achieving numbness

We will educate you about the different techniques and make recommendations based on your particular case. When working with sedation medications, your health and safety are a top priority. Because certain health conditions counteract sedation medication, we will take down your medical history and inquire about your health status before suggesting a course of treatment.

More about Sedation Dentistry Techniques

Sedation dentistry techniques can be used in almost any case — root canal, cavity filling, or crown placement — where the patient struggles with dental phobia (fear of the dentist or dental treatment).

The simplest form of sedation is in the form of nitrous oxide or “laughing gas.” You will breathe in the nitrous oxide through a face mask, and it should take effect within about 20 seconds. You will feel very relaxed and might drift into a state of light sleep. As soon as the mask is removed, the effects will wear off. There are no aftereffects and no recovery downtime needed.

Another common form of sedation dentistry is conscious sedation. You will take a small pill prior to treatment, which puts you into a tranquil, relaxed state of mind during your appointment. As we work, you will be able to communicate with us and follow simple instructions. However, you will not have any pain or discomfort. You won’t even know the procedure has taken place until treatment is finished, and you will have little to no recollection of the experience.

For your safety, you should arrange for someone to drive you to and from our office and stay with you for a short period after your appointment until the effects of the medication wear off. During treatment, your vitals will be monitored continuously to ensure a complication-free experience.
